North Maafannu MP Imthiyaz Fahmy (Inthi) has filed a report to the Police against South Henveiru MP Hussain Shaheem (An'dhun Hussain) and Meedhoo MP Rozaina Adam, saying that they have been working to lower the state provided security of the Speaker of the Parliament and former President Mohamed Nasheed.

In the complaint filed with the Police, Inthi said that Nasheed is still the Speaker of the Parliament and he is also a former President of the country. And that Nasheed was the victim of a terrorist attack and has still not received justice in the case.

Inthi noted that he had expressed concern over Abbas Faiz, the envoy appointed by President Solih to monitor the case of the terrorist attack on Mohamed Nasheed, not bringing this case to a conclusion and giving justice to Nasheed. At the same time, Inthi's report stated that the terrorist attack happened when the threat to Mohamed Nasheed's life was at a critical level, showing that it happened because he was not provided with the sufficient level of security then.

Inthi's report stated that despite the law requiring Nasheed to be provided security and protection, some influential figures like the government-affiliated Security Committee (241 Committee) Vice Chairperson Hussain Shaheem and Committee on Independent Institutions Chairperson Rozaina Adam opposing this in various forums suggest that there is a conspiracy.

Inthi said these two people, who have close ties to the government and hold influential positions, are speaking in a way that shows a high degree of anger and hatred towards MDP President Nasheed. He also said that he does not think there is any other reason for the two to target only Nasheed and criticize the provision of legally required security to such a person who is at the highest level of threat.

Inthi said he believes that they are speaking in such a way because they are convinced that if they succeed in reducing his security, Nasheed will be exposed to further danger.

Therefore, there is room to believe that this is a premeditated plot to facilitate another attack on Nasheed. As such, Inthi asked the Police to investigate this.

While Inthi has filed this case with the Police, in yesterday’s Parliament sitting, An'dhun Hussain said that spending millions of Rufiyaa annually on Nasheed’s security is too much a burden for the state to bear and it should be reviewed.
