Foreign Minister Abdulla Shahid has stated that Maldivians can now travel to 93 countries without a prior visa.
Minister Shahid said this referring to the signing of an agreement between Burundi and Maldives on mutual visa-free travel.
Shahid welcomed the Agreement on Mutual Visa Exemption signed between Maldives and Burundi in New York. The Minister expressed confidence that this agreement will enhance the interaction between the people of the two countries and further strengthen the relations between the two countries.
"Maldivians can now travel to 93 countries without requiring a prior visa," said Shahid.
The signing ceremony of the visa agreement with Burundi was held at the Permanent Mission of Maldives to the United Nations. Permanent Representative of the Maldives to the United Nations, Thilmeeza Hussain said the agreement will further strengthen relations between the two countries.
Burundi's Ambassador to the UN also expressed his country's desire to further strengthen relations with Maldives.
Maldives has been establishing visa agreements with many countries. As a result, the number of countries Maldivians can travel to without a prior visa has increased.
