The government has decided to give a special allowance to local doctors who do not work in any place other than government hospitals.
The government yesterday announced a salary increase for health workers. Local doctors above rank 10 will be given special allowances in addition to their salaries if they do not work anywhere else other than the government hospitals they work at.
Doctors who want this allowance must sign an agreement not to provide services at any place other than the government hospital where they are employed. According to the government, the amount of the allowance will be determined on a case-by-case basis.
The salary of doctors classified above rank 10 is MVR 55,675 including overtime pay. However, with the newly migrated salary structure, such persons will then receive MVR 66,702.
The government has said that 3,710 health workers will receive salary increases with the new changes.
