Australian Foreign Minister Maris Payne announced the establishment of an Australian High Commission in Maldives in February last year.
Announcing the decision, Australian Foreign Minister Maris Payne said the permanent high commission would further strengthen ties with an important neighbor in the Indian Ocean. He said it would be an additional force to ensure stability and security in the Indo-Pacific region, as both Australia and Maldives want.
