The people did not have to bear the burden of COVID-19 because the government bore it, President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih said today.

Speaking at the opening ceremony of the new power plant and office building developed by FENAKA in Bilehdhoo island of faafu atoll, President Solih said the people did not have to bear the burden of COVID-19 because the government bore it.

With a population of 1400, Billedhu is a very extensive fishing island. Accordingly, mvr 9.5 million has been disbursed as free assistance to 53 fishermen's and 16 other workers in Bilehdhoo said president.

“In such a situation, the government should take the responsibility, take the burden and do things in a way that does not cause difficulties for the people.” The President said.

The President said the leaders of neighboring Sri Lanka and Seychelles later explained Maldives approach to managing the virus. Some countries copied Maldives approach, he said.

The President added that Maldives was able to manage the dangerous situation so well because of the input of experts in the field.

President Solih started a tour of all the island in the faafua atoll in saturday. The President visited Nilandhoo, Dharanbudhu and Magudoo islands.
