Jumhooree Party (JP) leader Qasim Ibrahim has said that President Nasheed does not want anyone else to come to power.

Qasim said that ever since nasheed's defeat in the mdp primaries, he has been building ties with JP for his own purposes.

Qasim said he had met twice at the Sun Island resort, but was aware that it was a show.

"He doesn't want anyone other than him to be in power in the country," Qasim said today.

Qasim said that the paper presented from the "Fikuregge Dhirun" faction showed the sacrifices he has to go through to get Nasheed into power. However, Qasim said today that he would not allow it.

"They (Fikuregge Dhirun faction led by Nasheed) have put forward a proposal. The proposal was based on what I believed to be an attempt to bring president Nasheed to power. That's not what I was thinking. So I didn't want to say anything. I didn't say anything, I didn't even reply," he said of Nasheed's proposal.

Qasim said there would be no change in his decision to contest at the presidential elections. Qasim said the government was under pressure after deciding to run for power and that it would not back down this time by intimidating.

The faction of Nasheed against President Solih, was the first to talk about the presidential election to the Jumhooree Party. Nasheed also met with Qasim directly and held discussions. However, Qasim rose against the proposal of changing to a parliamentary system that Nasheed was pursuing to come to power.
