As a no-confidence motion is filed against the Deputy Speaker of the People’s Majlis Eva Abdullah, ruling MDPs MP Ibrahim Shareef and MP Rozaina Adam have expressed their willingness to ascend to the position which is likely to be vacated soon.
So far, MDP with a clear majority in the parliament, has not decided on who will become the next Deputy.
As per available information, no MP besides Shareef and Rozaina from MDP has expressed interest in the job.
Many PG members believe that Rozaina is the likeliest person among the two who will be voted to fill the gap.
However, a PG member told us that there has not been an official discussion in the parliamentary group yet on the matter.
Earlier MP Mohamed Aslam had expressed his interest in replacing the present Speaker Mohamed Nasheed who will fight a no-confidence motion soon.
