Former Housing Minister Dr. Mohamed Muizzu states that the people have disapproved of the government's proposed budget for the year 2021.

In a tweet, Dr. Muizzu said that 50% of the 34 billion MVR budget 2021 proposed by the government is debt. Dr. Muizzu also highlighted that the government plans to sell land and goods from the people to increase the revenue for the budget 2021.

In addition, Dr. Muizzu said that the parliament can approve the budget since the government has its majority at the parliament, but the people will disapprove of the government's proposed budget for the year 2021.

The proposed budget for 2021 is MVR 34.8 billion of which total expenditure is MVR 33.3 billion. It is estimated that the government would receive MVR 17.8 billion as revenue and grants in 2020, of which the majority is from tax revenue. The proposed budget deficit for 2021 is 15.5 billion, and this is 23.4% of GDP.
