Honorable Qasim Ibrahim, Leader of Jumhooree Party (JP), has declined to be a coalition partner of President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih in the latter’s bid to run for president this year.

Qasim officially communicated his decision in writing on Thursday to President Solih’s request that the former had received months back on February 19.

Qasim in his reply to President Solih said that as the Council of his party had decided that he should run for president as JP’s candidate in the race, he would be honoring the decision.

“In the interest of the public, I will be honoring and executing the decision made by Jumhooree Party’s Council”, Qasim wrote in his reply to President Solih.

He also said that during president Solih’s presidency, ‘some of the things as they were in in his mind’ have not taken courses as he had expected.

JP on Friday presented the party’s presidential ticket to Qasim in a rally held in Male’.
