The debate on the no-confidence motion against the Deputy Speaker Eva Abdullah is scheduled to start today.
The Secretariat of the Majlis said yesterday that, backed by 50 MPs, the no-confidence motion was filed in the parliament on May 23.

Yesterday’s Majlis session ended following protests by ruling MDP MPs in the chamber as the matter was not included in the agenda for the day.

“Even though, time-allocation rule for debate is not revised yet by the General Purpose Committee of the Majlis”, debate on the no-confidence motion against Eva will begin today as the 14-day notice has expired, Secretary General Fathimath Niusha said in a letter sent to MPs yesterday.

According to Majlis procedures, the General Purpose Committee decides on time-allocation rule for debates.

However, the Committee has not functioned since 12 MPs from ruling MDP switched their political affiliations in May after MP Ali Azim was kicked out of the party.
