The Commissioner of the Election Commission (EC), Fuwad Thowfeek has stated that it will not work any better as it is now, if he resigns.

He stated this in response to the backlash calling for his resignation, after he announced the challenges in online re-registration for those who are living abroad.

According to EC, there is no online re-registration for those who are living abroad and required to re-register to vote in the upcoming presidential election. Therefore, those living abroad have to submit the re-registration form to the High Commission in respective countries.

However, many complaints have been raised towards EC as the online re-registration is unavailable for those living abroad. For which, Elections Commissioner, Fuwad Thowfeek has apologized publicly, as the EC could not make the arrangements in due time.

Despite his apology, Fuwad has been criticized by many, some calling for his resignation as well.

Addressing the public backlash, Fuwad reassured that it will not get any better than now, if he resigned.

According to EC, for the upcoming Presidential Elections 604 ballot boxes will be set up. Of which, 13 boxes will be placed out of country.
