A senior official at the Ministry of National Planning, Housing, and Infrastructure says that the ministry is making efforts to publish the preliminary list of recipients of apartments built under the present government’s “Gedhoruveriya (homeowner)” Housing Scheme before July ends.

“When I was asked by reporters on the timing of the publication of the preliminary list of apartment recipients, I have told them that our target was to circulate it before the month ends”, Akram Kamaludeen, Minister of State at the ministry, tweeted on Monday.

Not long after taking office, President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih started a brand-new housing project called “Gedhoruveriya Housing Scheme” to house four thousand permanently residing families and migrant families who have been living in the capital Malé Area (this includes old Malé, Hulhumalé, and Viligili) for fifteen years.

When the last minute for accepting applications for the Gedhoruveriya Housing Scheme arrived on June 26, 2022, the ministry received 35,861 forms. This figure also included 19,857 applications for the “Binveriya (the land grant scheme of the government)” land ownership program.

Regarding applications for apartments built by the government, the ministry earlier said that they received 14,489 forms for three-room flats and 6,208 applications for two-room flats.
