Health Protection Agency (HPA) says that from Thursday night, records show that there have been unexpected rises in cases of vomiting and diarrhea in Malé area.
“A sudden increase in diarrhea and vomiting has been observed in Malé area since last night. HPA is working with relevant authorities to identify the cause”, HPA tweeted today.
Reports say that ADK and IGMH - two major hospitals in Malé area, are presently working at full capacity handling the unexpected numbers of persons presenting at the hospitals seeking care. Most of those who are taken to the hospitals are children.
The authorities have not yet confirmed reports that claim that the cause of the sudden increase in vomiting and diarrhea cases in Malé area was food poisoning among children who had participated in the Independence Day events.
