After spending ten years in PPM, former President Dr. Mohamed Waheed Hassan Manik leaves the camp and meets Jumhooree Party’s presidential candidate MP Qasim Ibrahim in Maamigili.
On Thursday President Waheed after leaving PPM tweeted, “After having been a member of PPM for 10 years, I am saddened to submit my resignation from the Progressive Party of Maldives (PPM)”.
On the same day, he issued a statement where he said that he joined the party to ensure national stability. President Waheed until his resignation was a Special Adviser for PPM’s leadership.
MP Qasim Ibrahim received President Waheed and his son Jeffrey Salim Waheed – a former diplomat, at Maamigili International Airport on Friday.
The local media are expecting comments from President Waheed and MP Qasim over their Friday night talks that were held “behind closed doors”.
There are speculations that President Waheed would soon join MP Qasim’s camp.
“Former President Waheed arrived at Maamigili International Airport tonight. Jumhooree Party’s Leader and the Presidential Candidate warmly received the President”, tweeted JP Secretariat.
