Former Thai prime minister Thaksin Shinawatra, who has been living in exile since leaving the country in May, expects to return on Tuesday, according to a statement made by his daughter on Saturday.
“On Tuesday, Aug. 22, at 0900, at Don Muang Airport, I will meet Father Thaksin,” Paetongtarn Shinawatra said in a social media post, referring to an airport in the capital Bangkok.
Originally scheduled to return on August 10, Thaksin postponed his trip because he needed to get his health checked.
The former mogul of telecoms, who served as president from 2001 until his overthrow in a coup in 2006, now lives in self-imposed exile after fleeing Thailand in 2008 to escape a jail term for corruption. Upon his return, he would still be sentenced to prison.
