Former President Donald Trump has said that he would turn himself into Georgian authorities on Thursday to face charges in a case alleging that he engaged in criminal planning to rig the state's 2020 election.
“Can you believe it? I’ll be going to Atlanta, Georgia, on Thursday to be arrested,” Trump wrote on his social media network Monday night, hours after his bond was set at $200,000.
It will be Trump’s fourth arrest since April when he became the first former president in US history to face indictment. Since then, Trump, who remains the leading candidate for the Republican presidential nomination, has had what has seemed like an endless procession of bookings and arraignments in jurisdictions across the country.
Trump was charged last week in the case along with a number of associates, who prosecutors said planned to thwart the will of the people in an effort to retain the Republican in the White House after he lost to the Democrat Joe Biden.
The lawsuit, along with the other three he is facing, is seen by Trump as an attempt to harm his bid for the presidency in 2024. Trump has denied any wrongdoing. He has frequently singled out prosecutors and other parties engaged in his lawsuits on the Truth Social platform, and he also uses it to disseminate inaccuracies about the 2020 election being stolen from him.
