According to Metro, a people smuggler from Egypt who brazenly drove a 50-person inflatable boat across the English Channel has been sentenced to jail in the UK.
Last year in July, Reda Hamoud Abdurabou made an attempt to enter the country but was prevented and held in custody by Border Force officials. The individual, who is 25 years old, was found guilty of aiding illegal immigration and unlawfully attempting to enter the UK. As a result, Salisbury Crown Court sentenced him to three years and two months in prison.
Chris Foster, deputy director of criminal and financial investigations at the UK Home Office, said: “This defendant gloated as he risked dozens of lives by crossing the Channel illegally.”
Following his arrest, authorities in Egypt seized the mobile phone of the individual in question. Upon examination of the device, they uncovered images and text messages detailing plans for smuggling activities. Among the photos found were pictures of Abdurabou's migrant passengers precariously perched on the edge of the dinghy or seated on the boat's floor.
