$80 million (MVR 1.2 billion) needed to complete Velana International Airport was arranged by this government, according to Finance Minister Ibrahim Ameer.

Minister Ameer stated this in response to the President-elect's office announcing that the Abu Dhabi Fund for Development (ADFD) allocated $79.8 million (MVR 1.2 billion) to accelerate the Velana International Airport project. Transition Committee Spokesperson Mohammed Firzul Abdullah Halil told a news conference today that the money was arranged during President-elect Dr. Muizzu's informal visit to Abu Dhabi on an invitation of the UAE government.

The Finance Minister, Ibrahim Ameer, has refuted allegations that the funds were arranged during President-elect Dr. Muizzu's visit to Abu Dhabi. According to the Minister, the money in question was secured by the current government of President Solih and had nothing to do with Muizzu's visit.

Ameer said a meeting was held with Arab countries during the year, which included the Kuwait Fund, Saudi Fund, Abu Dhabi Government, and OPEC Fund for International Development, as well as UNK. At the meeting, it was reassured that all the funds required to complete the airport project would be provided under a ratio, said Minister Ameer.

"The number [$80 million] was shared during President-elect's visit. Funds have already been assured to complete the project. This was decided by our efforts," said Minister Ameer.
