President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu has decided to form three councils to strengthen and promote efforts in key areas.

The decision to form the councils was announced at a press conference at the Presidential Office today.

Presidential Office Public Policy Under Secretary Mohammed Firzul said the three new councils are the Social Council, the Economic Council, and the Visitor Economic Council.

Firzul announced that the Economic Council will be chaired by the Economic Minister, Mohammed Saeed. Meanwhile, the Social Council will be chaired by the Vice-President and the Visitor Economic Council will be chaired by the President.

According to the President's Office today, the Visitor Economic Council is completely new, although the government previously had the Social Council and the Economic Council. The establishment of the Visitor Economic Council aligns with the President's commitment to expanding tourism, the mainstay of the Maldives' economy, said Firuzul. The council's mandate also includes promoting and diversifying the tourism sector.
