MWSC Managing Director Abdul Matheen Mohammed has said that the company has to bear the financial burden as it has not received the money due from previous government projects.

Speaking on local TV, Matheen said the previous government had implemented projects without considering the economic situation. The population and economic situation should be considered when establishing infrastructure in all islands, he said.

Matheen said the situation in the country shows that services have not been provided in all areas for the past 50 years. And that happens because economically speaking, the services cannot be provided unless a certain population comes together, Matheen said.

"Because of that, we have to provide part of the expenditure in the form of debt or grants... the previous government decided to establish infrastructure in all parts of the country by taking huge loans, and did not look at whether the costs can be covered later. Therefore, the people will have to bear the burden.” Matheen said.

Matheen also said the company has to bear the financial burden of the work as the government has not received the money after taking loans from the company. That is the main problem facing the company at the moment, he said.
