Fisheries Minister Ahmed Shiyam has said that he will find a comprehensive solution to the challenges faced by the fishermen and that he will not forget what has been said in the past.

Replying to a public letter sent to the Minister by a fisherman on social media, the Minister said he had called the fisherman who sent the letter to him and discussed the concerns.

The Minister has assured the fisherman, who raised the concerns, that the President is prioritizing fishermen's concerns and searching for long-term a solution.

After taking over as the Minister, Shiyam has been working hard to settle the outstanding money to the fishermen. So far, Rs 30 million has been released to the fishermen.

I assure you that this government will not forget what it says, said Shiyam. In addition, President Dr. Muizzu's government would soon find a permanent solution to the challenges in the fishing industry, said the Minister.

Earlier, according to Minister Shiyam, the delay in paying the fishermen was caused when the previous government raised the price of fish to MVR 25 per kg during the campaign period. This government has decided to keep the price of fish at MVR 20 per kg.
