Speaker of the Parliament, Mohamed Nasheed, has said that establishing an International Airport in Addu City would benefit the whole country.

Speaking at the Parliament Committee of the Whole House meeting, Nasheed said that Addu city has more natural habitats that are different from other islands, therefore establishing an International Airport in Addu City would benefit the whole country.

Speaking at the same committee meeting, Parliament member for Feydhoo, Mr. Ibrahim Nihad, also spoke in agreement with Nasheed. MP Nihad said Addu airport will be able to cater to the whole region. Nihad also added that following an International Airport, the beautiful islands of Huvadhoo Atoll and Gnaviyani Atoll can be used, bring in more benefit and revenue.

The second biggest International Airport in the Maldives, Gan International Airport in Addu City, is developed with modern resources. However, people have raised concerns about fewer International flights to the Airport and slow developments to the region following an International Airport.

Meanwhile, with each election, Airport development plans and development plans to the region following an International Airport have been proposed multiple times.
