Former President Yameen Abdul Gayyoom has called to defeat the current government from election polls.
Former President Yameen shared his comments through the special message he passed on to his supporters following a year he spent detained.
In his message, Yameen called his supporters to defeat the current government and the ruling party, the Maldives Democratic Party coalition, from upcoming elections. He also added that defeating the current government and its coalition in elections is an important achievement his supporters can do for him.
Meanwhile, the president of the opposition party People's National Congress (PNC), Abdulla Abdul Raheem, has said that President Yameen has given assurance that he will not run away and he would rather stand with the people of the Maldives. Abdulla Abdul Raheem said this following his visit to President Yameen at Maafushi Jail.
Abdulla Abdul Raheem also said that President Yameen advised on defeating the current government from the upcoming Local Council Election (LCE).
It has been a year since President Yameen was charged and jailed for his involvement in Maldives Marketing and Public Relations Corporation (MMPRC) embezzlement and money laundering scandal. Following a year President Yameen spent in jail, the opposition has held a protest across the country in the name of against the abuse President Yameen is receiving.
