First Lady Sajidha Mohammed has announced that she intends to donate her salary as a senior scientific officer at the Maldives Food and Drug Authority (MFDA) to the Ministry.
Sajidha said this while speaking on local media yesterday.
Sajidha faced criticism when the Civil Service Commission decided to pay her MVR 75 per hour for her services at the Health Ministry. Some believe that her influential position may create a conflict of interest within the Ministry.
The Civil Service Commission was also summoned to a parliamentary committee. When the Parliament inquired about the contract for First Lady Sajidha to work at the MFDA, the Civil Service Commission said that a contract agreement is not contrary to the Civil Service Act and is not something new to the commission.
Sajidha addressed the criticism by admitting that the concerns raised by people are significant. She assured the public that she would work in the Ministry in a way that does not harm anyone's interests. Therefore, due to her position, she will not have decision-making authority. Additionally, she mentioned that since President Dr. Mohammed Muizzu was elected to power, she has been solely performing technical work at MFDA.
Sajidha, who has served in the civil service for 25 years, said she loves working where she has worked since her youth.
"I love this work very, very much. In other words, it's hard not to do it. It started when I was very young, and there is an attachment," she said.
