The president of the opposition party PNC; Mr. Abdul Raheem Abdulla has said that the case will be filed against the unequal opportunities to campaign in the Local Council Election (LCE).

While speaking at a press conference held on this Sunday by the coalition between the Progressive Party of Maldives (PPM) and the People's National Congress (PNC), Abdul Raheem Abdulla has said that the opposition is well prepared for the upcoming Local Council Election. He also added that a competitive election should include equal opportunities for everyone, highlighting that at present there are no equal opportunities given.

Speaking further, Abdul Raheem Abdulla also accused that the government is misusing the Covid-19 pandemic and keeping the opposition members at home while the government is working its way up to receive the results the government wants.

“We cannot travel to any of the Islands while the government officials can travel to Islands and campaign for the upcoming election. Hence we are in discussion with our legal team about unequal opportunities. We are planning to file the issue at the court.” said Abdul Raheem Abdulla.

He also urged that although the opposition leaders cannot travel to the islands, supporters in the islands should continue strong campaigns for the upcoming Local Council Elections. Abdul Raheem Abdulla had also assured that the opposition candidates will compete in the upcoming Local Council Elections even with or without an opportunity to campaign.

Meanwhile, the former President Yameen Abdul Gayyoom has advised on defeating the current government from the upcoming Local Council Election (LCE).
