Former President Maumoon Abdul Gayyoom has said that he has not decided to compete in the upcoming presidential elections.

Meanwhile, the former President Maumoon returning to the presidency has been rumored.

In regards to the rumors, speaking to Ras Online, Maumoon has said that he has no plans yet to compete in the upcoming presidential elections in 2023. Although Maumoon has not decided to compete in the upcoming presidential elections, Maumoon has also not spoken about a candidate from his political party, Maldives Reform Movement competing at the upcoming presidential elections.

So far, the former Home Minister Umar Naseer is the only person who has announced his candidacy to compete at the 2023 presidential election.

Besides, rumors are ongoing about the current President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih may not competing for a second term and while the ruling party coalition could introduce former President Mohamed Nasheed as a candidate for the upcoming presidential elections in 2023.
