India has agreed to fast-track the withdrawal of Indian military personnel from the Maldives.

The decision was discussed at the first meeting of the India-Maldives High-Level Core Group, held in Male today.

During the meeting held at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Maldives, both sides held discussions on wide-ranging issues related to bilateral cooperation towards identifying steps to enhance the partnership, including expediting the implementation of ongoing development cooperation projects. Both sides expressed willingness to intensify cooperation and agreed to fast-track the withdrawal of Indian military personnel.

Today's Cabinet session also addressed the ongoing discussions regarding the repatriation of Indian military personnel currently stationed within Maldivian territory and disclosed that 11 meetings have been conducted to date. During the 12th meeting, which took place today, the Maldivian government established a deadline of March 15, 2024, for the complete withdrawal of Indian military personnel from Maldivian soil.
