The Health Protection Agency of the Maldives (HPA) has announced that the quarantine period for travelers coming from abroad and the travelers traveling from the greater Male’ area to the islands has been shortened from 14 days to 10 days.

The announcement released by the HPA on Wednesday reads that the Director-General of Public Health, Maimoona Aboobakuru, has made changes to the measures implemented in the Maldives to control the spread of COVID-19, including shortening the quarantine period, effective on Friday, December 4.

As per the statement by HPA, except for tourists, the new quarantine period for travelers coming from abroad, travelers from Male’ to other residential islands, travelers from resorts to residential islands, and travelers from residential islands with operational guesthouses to other residential islands is 10 days. Adding that the people will be released from the quarantine, following a negative PCR test after 10 days.

The statement also reads that the changes will come to effect on Friday, December 4, and people who are traveling before the date will have to continue to follow the 14 days of quarantine.

HPA has stated that the 10 day quarantine period is only for the travelers, and any COVID-19 patients and direct contacts will have to follow 14 days of quarantine as before.
