The Ministry of Health has announced the extension of the ongoing public health emergency for another month.

The statement released by the Health Ministry ordered the current state of public health emergency to be extended until next year January 4th.

The Maldives announced a state of public health emergency on March 12th. The first such declaration under a recent public health protection law. The current announcement will be extending the initial state of a public health emergency for the 9th time.

The statement is released following the advice of the Director-General of Public Health. The statement reads that the threat of a nationwide outbreak remains widespread and special measures are required to mitigate the threat in the Maldives for the health and safety of the people.

So far, Maldives has recorded over 13,000 positive cases and recovery of over 12,000 infected people, and 47 deaths are recorded due to complications of Covid-19.
