President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih has underscored the importance of expanding the fishing industry, stating that it is a priority for the government. Addressing a gathering on Dhuvaafaru Island in the north of Maalhosmadulu Atoll, the President assured that all outstanding payments owed to fishermen would be settled before the month of Ramadan.

Following the settlement of pending payments, President Solih pledged to streamline the payment process for fishermen, aiming to ensure that future payments are made within 48 hours without any delays.

Expanding on the government's economic agenda, the President highlighted efforts to broaden the tax base. He outlined plans to achieve this by facilitating the development of unbuilt resorts, attracting more investors to the tourism sector, and fostering the expansion of tourism activities. These initiatives are expected to lead to an increase in Tourism Goods and Services Tax (TGST) revenue and expand the tax base.

Reaffirming his commitment to serving the people, President Solih assured attendees that his government prioritizes addressing the needs of the citizens. He emphasized that the government is dedicated to ensuring the welfare and prosperity of the people.

Dhuvaafaru Island marks the fourth stop on President Solih's visit to the northern and southern regions of Maalhosmadulu Atoll. The President's visit underscores the government's commitment to engaging with local communities, understanding their concerns, and implementing measures to enhance their livelihoods and overall well-being.
