Tragedy struck in the northern part of the Palestinian territory on Friday as a humanitarian airdrop resulted in the deaths of five individuals and left ten others wounded, according to a medic at Gaza’s largest hospital.

The casualties were swiftly transported to Al-Shifa Hospital in Gaza City, as confirmed by Mohammed Al-Sheikh, the head nurse of the emergency room. Al-Sheikh disclosed that the fatal airdrop occurred north of the coastal Al-Shati refugee camp.

An eyewitness from the camp recounted his experience, stating that he and his brother had followed the parachuted aid in hopes of obtaining "a bag of flour." However, their hopes turned to horror as the parachute failed to open, causing the aid package to plummet like a rocket onto the roof of a nearby house.

The United States and Jordan have been among the countries conducting airdrops in northern Gaza, where hundreds of thousands of people are grappling with dire conditions following more than five months of conflict. Despite the reported casualties, both Jordan's military and a US defense official have denied involvement in causing the fatalities, raising questions about the circumstances surrounding the tragic incident.
