Health Minister Dr. Abdullah Khaleel has revealed that stalled projects in the Maldives' health sector amount to a significant MVR 2 billion.

Answering questions at the parliament today, the Minister said that upon assuming office, the government inherited numerous stalled health center and hospital projects, presenting a substantial challenge to healthcare infrastructure development.

Efforts to resume some projects have been hindered by budgetary constraints, with only MVR 380 million allocated in the current state budget for health initiatives. Dr. Khaleel emphasized that this amount falls short of the actual cost of the projects, posing difficulties in advancing essential healthcare initiatives.

The primary reason behind project stagnation is attributed to the lack of funds, according to Dr. Khaleel. Despite the challenges, he remains committed to finding solutions to overcome these obstacles and prioritize the revitalization of critical healthcare facilities across the nation.
