Former Maldivian President Abdulla Yameen has accused the government of deliberately delaying his trial, alleging political influence in the process. Yameen, who was convicted of bribery and money laundering related to the leasing of V. Aarah, expressed dissatisfaction with the prolonged delay in his appeal hearing.

The appeal hearing for Yameen's 11-year prison sentence concluded on November 21 last year, yet the High Court has not set a date for the verdict hearing. Yameen seized the opportunity to voice his concerns during a gathering at the People's National Congress (PNF) office, where he criticized the government's alleged interference in his case.

According to Yameen, government leaders are reluctant to see him released, suggesting that this reluctance has resulted in minimal public protests in his support. He specifically named former Housing Minister Dr. Mohamed Muizzu, accusing him of lacking any motivation to facilitate Yameen's release.

Yameen's remarks extended beyond his personal legal battle, as he also criticized various government policies and activities. Despite the looming uncertainty surrounding his trial, Yameen vowed to continue speaking out against what he perceives as government wrongdoing, even if he faces the prospect of returning to jail.
