Eydhafushi MP Ahmed Saleem asserted today that the Progressive National Congress (PNC) would refrain from intimidation tactics despite holding a supermajority in parliament.

During the parliamentary session, Saleem emphasized the transient nature of power, authority, and influence, stressing that such dominance may shift unexpectedly. He cautioned against exploiting temporary strength to inflict mental distress, particularly on the disadvantaged.

Saleem clarified that although the Maldivian Democratic Party (MDP) secured the supermajority, the PNC would not resort to such tactics. He affirmed the PNC's commitment to respecting minority rights and avoiding intimidation or mental harm.

"Even with a supermajority, we will not attempt to intimidate or mentally defeat anyone without regard for minority rights," Saleem affirmed during the session.

Reflecting on past administrations, Saleem criticized the trend of governments exacerbating existing issues upon assuming power. He urged all governments to prioritize uplifting citizens from poverty to improved circumstances.
