In a decisive move aimed at addressing the ongoing crisis in Palestine, the Maldives has called upon the United Nations Security Council to reassess the admission of Palestine as a full member state of the United Nations. This call comes in alignment with the recently adopted Resolution "Admission of New Member States to the United Nations," endorsed by the General Assembly on Friday.

During the tenth Emergency Special Session, the Maldives underscored the overwhelming support garnered by the Resolution, emphasizing that it sends a robust message to the Security Council. The Maldives urged fellow United Nations member states to act swiftly to alleviate the persistent suffering in Palestine and urged Israel to abide by its international obligations as per international law and humanitarian principles.

Highlighting the critical need for a lasting solution to the Middle East conflict, the Maldives stressed the importance of recognizing and establishing an independent and sovereign State of Palestine. This vision, based on pre-1967 borders with East Jerusalem as its capital, remains fundamental to achieving peace and stability in the region.

The tenth Emergency Special Session was reconvened on May 10, 2024, following the request of the Chairs of the Arab Group, Organization of Islamic Cooperation, and the Non-Aligned Movement. The Maldives' statement reaffirms its unwavering commitment to advocating for justice, peace, and the rights of the Palestinian people on the international stage.
