Former President Maumoon Abdul Gayoom extended his deepest condolences to the people of Iran following the tragic death of President Ebrahim Raisi and Foreign Minister Hossein Amirabdollahian in a helicopter crash. The heartfelt message was shared in a post on X on Monday.

In his post, Gayoom, who served as the President of the Maldives from 1978 to 2008, emphasized solidarity and sympathy with the Iranian people during this period of national grief.

"Deepest condolences to the brotherly people of Iran on the demise of their President and Foreign Minister. May Almighty Allah bless their souls and grant them Paradise and give the people of Iran fortitude at this time of national tragedy!" Gayoom wrote.

The crash, which occurred in a foggy, mountainous region of northwest Iran, has left the nation in mourning. President Raisi, 63, and Foreign Minister Amirabdollahian, 60, were among several officials who perished in the incident. The helicopter was reportedly making a "hard landing" when the accident happened. The tragedy has added to the region's existing turmoil, with Iran recently involved in heightened tensions due to the Israel-Hamas conflict and ongoing issues with the West.

The Iranian government is currently navigating the aftermath of this significant loss, with Vice President Mohammad Mokhber stepping in temporarily. Meanwhile, the international community continues to offer support and condolences to Iran as it grapples with this profound tragedy.
