The Maldives has expressed its support for the International Criminal Court's (ICC) recent filing of applications for arrest warrants against Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and Defense Minister Yoav Gallant.

President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu announced the Maldives' stance on social media platform X, emphasizing the significance of this move in the pursuit of justice for the Palestinian people.

President Muizzu's post highlighted that this development marks a critical step towards accountability for alleged war crimes in the occupied Palestinian territories. He asserted that no country is exempt from international law and stressed the importance of holding individuals accountable for committing war crimes.

"As a State Party to the Rome Statute, the Maldives is confident that the Prosecutor's Office has gathered enough evidence to prove Israel has conducted war crimes and crimes against humanity in Gaza," President Muizzu stated. He further assured that the Maldives would continue to explore all possible avenues to support the Palestinian people in the international arena.

The chief prosecutor of the International Criminal Court (ICC), Karim Khan KC, has made a significant move by applying for arrest warrants for Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and Hamas's leader in Gaza, Yahya Sinwar, for alleged war crimes. This decision comes amidst ongoing tensions and conflicts in the region.

Khan stated that there are reasonable grounds to believe that both Netanyahu and Sinwar bear criminal responsibility for war crimes and crimes against humanity, particularly from the day of Hamas's attack on Israel on October 7 onwards. Alongside them, Israeli Defence Minister Yoav Gallant and Hamas's political leader Ismail Haniyeh, as well as the group's military chief Mohammed Deif, are also wanted for arrest.
