On Tuesday, Minister Shiyam and senior officials from the Ministry of Fisheries, Marine Resources, and Agriculture met with the Chinese Ambassador to the Maldives, Wang Lixin, and a delegation from the Department of Ocean and Fisheries Resources of Fujian Province, China. The discussions focused on the development of fisheries and ocean resources in the Maldives.

Fujian Province is renowned as one of China's leading regions in the fisheries and aquaculture sectors. During the meeting, Minister Shiyam expressed interest in collaborating with Fujian on capacity building, mariculture, and exploratory fishing. These initiatives aim to enhance the skills and knowledge of the Maldivian fisheries industry and boost the economy, aligning with President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu's vision.

Minister Shiyam also highlighted the Maldives government's priorities to transform the fisheries processing sector and welcomed Chinese investments to support these efforts. He emphasized the importance of modernizing and expanding this crucial industry, indicating a strong willingness to engage in mutually beneficial partnerships.
