A Financing Agreement was signed yesterday between the Maldives and the European Union (EU), allocating €6.5 million to strengthen the Maldives' blue economy. This significant funding aims to bolster the sustainable management of marine resources and enhance the nation’s economic resilience.
The signing was a key highlight during a meeting between Minister of Foreign Affairs Moosa Zameer and Paola Pampaloni, Deputy Managing Director of the Asia and Pacific Department of the European External Action Service. Held at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the meeting reflected on the progress achieved through Maldives-EU cooperation, notably in climate change resilience, judicial reform, and counterterrorism.
Minister Zameer expressed his gratitude for the EU's comprehensive support initiatives, emphasizing the positive impact on the Maldives' climate-resilient socioeconomic development. He also reiterated the Maldives' interest in being included in the list of countries exempt from Schengen visa requirements.
