The Parliament Committee on National Security Services (241) has launched an investigation into potential actions by the previous government that may have compromised the independence of the Maldives. This decision follows a motion put forward by Central Hithadhoo constituency MP Ahmed Azan Marzooq.

Azan's proposal seeks to scrutinize the period between 2018 and 2023, during which concerns have emerged regarding actions undermining the country's sovereignty by the then government and various agencies. The motion aims to leverage the parliamentary inquiry powers vested in both the Parliament and the 241 Committee by the Constitution.

The inquiry will delve into three critical areas outlined by MP Azan. These include investigating the hydrography agreement signed between India and the Maldives, assessing the development of a port in Uthuruthilafalhu, and examining the Dornier aircraft agreement.

Additionally, Mamigili constituency MP Gasim Ibrahim has tabled a separate motion calling for an investigation into the previous government's actions concerning the delineation of the border between Maldives and Mauritius.

To facilitate these inquiries, the Security Services Committee has formed a dedicated four-member sub-committee. The investigative team comprises Central Hithadhoo constituency MP Ahmed Azan Marzooq, Diggaru constituency MP Ahmed Nazim, Hanimaadhoo constituency MP Abdul Ghafoor Musa, and Thulhaadhoo constituency MP Abdul Hannan Abubakur.
