The Food and Drug Authority (FDA) has taken action to ban the use of 15 medicines imported from Thailand. The alert was issued following findings that Thai pharmaceutical company Seven Stars had produced these drugs with dangerous chemicals present in an excipient used during manufacturing.

In response to the alert, the Maldives Food and Drug Authority (MFDA) has urged the public to refrain from using these drugs within the Maldives. Given Thailand's reputation as a destination for medical tourism and the import of medicines for personal use, caution is advised.

As a precautionary measure, the authority has also urged the public to exercise vigilance in inspecting medicines at ports of entry. This move underscores the commitment to ensuring the safety and well-being of the population amidst concerns over the quality and composition of imported pharmaceuticals.
