President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu has called for an unprecedented show of solidarity from the people of the Maldives towards the Palestinian cause, aiming for the largest contribution in the nation's history. Speaking at the launch of the nationwide fundraising telethon campaign 'Falastheenaa Eku Dhivehin' ('Maldivians in Solidarity with Palestine'), the President expressed hope that the funds raised would significantly impact Palestinian lives.

In his address, President Muizzu emphasized the urgent need for assistance for the Palestinian people, highlighting the critical moment for the Muslim Ummah to acknowledge their rights and responsibilities towards Palestine. He urged Maldivians to demonstrate exceptional generosity during the fundraising event.

To ensure transparency, an independent auditor has been appointed to oversee the telethon and ensure that the proceeds reach Palestine as intended. The telethon, organized by Public Service Media (PSM) in collaboration with other local media, will run until midnight. A total of 13 donation boxes have been placed in the greater Malé area, and two dedicated bank accounts have been set up for online fund deposits. The account number for MVR deposits is 7730000655865, and for USD deposits, it is 7730000655866.

Additionally, Minister of Foreign Affairs Moosa Zameer announced at the event that the Government of the Maldives will increase its annual contribution to the United Nations Relief and Works Agency for Palestine Refugees in the Near East (UNRWA) from USD 5,000 to USD 50,000 during President Muizzu's tenure. This increase underscores the Maldives' commitment to supporting Palestinian refugees and enhancing international solidarity.
