The High Commission of India in the Maldives celebrated the 10th International Day of Yoga with yoga enthusiasts from both India and the Maldives.

At the event, High Commissioner Mahawar highlighted a message from Indian Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi to Maldivian President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu, emphasizing India's commitment to the global movement towards mindfulness, sustainable living, and a return to basics. The High Commission expressed heartfelt gratitude to the Maldivian friends who attended and supported the event, highlighting the theme of "Yoga for Self and Society."

Meanwhile, it is noteworthy that the event was peaceful, unlike the 2022 Yoga Day celebration, which was marred by a riot. Obstructive attacks were carried out on civilians and diplomats attending that event, resulting in the arrest of 23 individuals, including local Islamic scholars and former MPs.

The celebration this year underscored the importance of yoga in enhancing individual and collective well-being, reinforcing the strong cultural ties between India and the Maldives.
