In a significant address marking the 24th Anniversary of the Diabetes Society of the Maldives, First Lady Madam Sajidha Mohamed emphasized the critical need for early diabetes awareness programs to be integrated into school curricula nationwide.

Addressing a distinguished audience at the commemorative event, Madam Sajidha Mohamed underscored the pervasive impact of diabetes within Maldivian society, highlighting its status as the most prevalent non-communicable disease affecting approximately one in ten individuals across the country.

During her speech, the First Lady articulated a proactive approach to combating the diabetes epidemic, outlining three fundamental steps for prevention: heightened awareness of the disease, adoption of healthier lifestyle choices informed by available medical insights, and prompt medical intervention for early detection and management.

Madam Sajidha Mohamed also unveiled a comprehensive statistical compendium derived from the national diabetes screening program, offering insights into the disease's prevalence and trends within the Maldives. This initiative, she noted, aims to bolster public understanding and support evidence-based policies to mitigate diabetes's impact.
