President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu of the Maldives has publicly endorsed the Advisory Opinion issued today by the International Court of Justice (ICJ) concerning Israel's actions in the Occupied Palestinian Territory, including East Jerusalem.

Taking to the social media platform 'X', President Muizzu affirmed the ICJ's recognition of Israel's presence in these territories as a breach of international humanitarian law, aligning it with the aspirations of the Palestinian people for statehood and self-determination.

In his statement, President Muizzu urged Israel to immediately cease its unlawful settlement activities and emphasized the need for reparations to address the harm caused by its discriminatory policies.

"The ICJ's acknowledgment of Israel's illegal presence in the Occupied Palestinian Territories reaffirms the Palestinian people's legitimate quest for statehood," President Muizzu declared. He further underscored the Maldives' commitment to supporting the establishment of an independent State of Palestine along the pre-1967 borders, with East Jerusalem as its capital.

The President's remarks reflect the Maldives' stance on the Israeli-Palestinian conflict, advocating for a peaceful resolution that respects international law and promotes justice for all parties involved.

The ICJ's ruling has been welcomed by various international bodies and countries sympathetic to the Palestinian cause, signaling renewed hope for progress towards a lasting peace in the region.
