The Governments of Japan and the Maldives formalized a significant grant aid today, with Japan providing 161 million Japanese Yen (approximately 1.02 million USD) to support the Project for Human Resource Development Scholarship (JDS) for the fiscal year 2024.

The Exchange of Notes was signed by Maldives Foreign Minister Moosa Zameer and Japanese Ambassador to the Maldives Ms. Takeuchi Midori in a ceremony held at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.

The grant will fund six scholarships this year, continuing a program that began in August 2020. The initiative aims to enhance human resource development in the Maldives by providing opportunities for Maldivian students to study in Japan.

Attendees of the ceremony included Minister of Higher Education, Labour and Skills Development Dr. Maryam Mariya, along with senior officials from the Ministries of Foreign Affairs, Higher Education, Labour and Skills Development, Finance, the Civil Service Commission, the Japanese Embassy, and the Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA).
