Foreign Minister Moosa Zameer called for decisive international action to address the worsening crisis in Gaza during the Open-Ended Extraordinary Meeting of the Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) at the level of Foreign Ministers.
In his address, Minister Zameer condemned the actions of Israel as genocidal and stressed the need for the international community to uphold the rule of law. He demanded an immediate and lasting humanitarian ceasefire and criticized the insufficient incremental aid efforts, calling instead for secure and effective aid distribution through humanitarian convoys.
Reiterating the Maldives' unwavering support for Palestine, Zameer advocated for the establishment of an independent Palestinian state based on pre-1967 borders, with East Jerusalem as its capital. He also condemned the recent assassination of Hamas' Chief of Political Bureau, Ismail Haniyeh.
The OIC, comprised of 57 member states, remains a strong advocate for Palestinian statehood. The Maldives, a member since 1976, continues to support efforts toward a peaceful resolution to the conflict.
