Former Vice President Ahmed Adheeb Abdul Ghafoor has underscored that improving a nation's financial situation is a personal responsibility, not just a government duty.
In a recent post on X, Adheeb stated that every individual should play a role in enhancing the country’s economic conditions.
The President of the Maldives Thirdway Democrats (MTD), Adheeb, who has been vocal about economic reforms, wrote, "It’s not just a government obligation but a personal responsibility. Maldives is my homeland too!” He noted that he has consistently advised his colleagues in the government to prioritize financial improvements.
This statement comes as the government is implementing various measures to address economic challenges in the country.
Adheeb’s remarks also come amid his own legal troubles, including his involvement in the MMPRC scam, one of the Maldives' largest financial scandals. He confessed to his role in the scandal and was sentenced to 20 years in prison. However, he was pardoned by former President Ibrahim Mohamed Saleh.
Adheeb is currently serving the remainder of his sentence under house arrest due to health issues and is receiving medical treatment abroad. Despite his legal troubles, Adheeb continues to advocate for economic reforms and responsible governance.
