The Zakat Fund has received MVR 77 million so far this year, according to Dr. Shaheem Ali Saeed, the Minister of Islamic Affairs. The ministry aims to increase this amount to MVR 100 million next year.
In a statement, Saeed highlighted the extensive efforts made to raise awareness about Zakat, noting that 59 awareness activities have been conducted. This year, the Zakat Fund has experienced an 11 percent increase compared to previous years, a trend the minister believes could significantly impact the future of Zakat in the Maldives.
So far, 3,884 individuals have been registered in the poor and needy register, and this year, the ministry has distributed MVR 4,000 per person as Zakat assistance. Additionally, the fund has provided support for four medical treatments, including cancer care, heart surgery, kidney disease, and brain surgery. Other forms of assistance have also been made available through the Zakat Fund, contributing to the well-being of the community.
