The Maldivian High Commission has issued a safety advisory for Maldivians residing in Sri Lanka ahead of the country’s presidential election on Saturday, September 21, 2024. The advisory comes as security measures are heightened in preparation for the election.

Residents are advised to carry proper identification when going out, avoid crowded areas, and steer clear of polling stations. The embassy also recommends staying indoors during the evening and following the instructions of police and security services.

Additionally, the High Commission has urged residents to stock up on essential items and refuel their vehicles ahead of the election. They have also advised making necessary visa arrangements for the upcoming holidays.

Security has been significantly increased throughout Sri Lanka in anticipation of the election, prompting several countries to issue travel advisories for the region.
